Looking Up” was the first painting I created after becoming a mom. It was my first step back into the art world that my heart had been yearning for.
In this season of starting again, I was inspired by a friend’s photograph taken in the fields of Reynolda Gardens. There’s something about the feeling you get when you look up at the sky and forget the world below you. When I’m looking at the sky, I’m usually looking up from my phone or in the car and am reminded that there’s a big beautiful world that’s deserving of my attention. Calling for it, even. In the sky, I’m reminded that there’s a beautiful creator that’s worthy of my eyes to be fixed upon Him.
I find so many little reminders in the clouds. I love that, when I was a child, I would look at them with my brother and name the animals we thought they looked like. As an adult, they remind me to slow down and that the small thing I’m stressing over really isn’t that big when compared to the largeness of the world. They remind me of the Lord’s kindness in how he shares something so beautiful with us.
I hope that you, too, can resonate with one or all of these things when you look at the clouds in the sky
